Certification Awards

Following is the text of two open letters from Dr. Sipus to the faculty, dated May 5, 2000:

(This letter has been adjusted to reflect Board action deleting item six.)

I am thrilled to be writing this letter to you.  The Lord provides is so many ways and He has again done so, at a time when I did not see how it could be done.  I am speaking of the action recently taken by our wonderful Board of Directors, which provides financial assistance for college or university courses leading to either a professional teaching credential or a masters degree.

Within the next two weeks, an application will be available to apply for this assistance.  The application will be available through Barbara Miller in the central office.

The criteria for the financial award is as follows:

  1. A request will be considered for a professional certificate and/or Master’s degree.

  2. A teacher must hold appropriate professional certification before being considered eligible for an award toward a Master’s degree.  Subject to prior approval, it might be possible to acquire both at the same time.

  3. The specific certification and/or Master’s degree must relate to your teaching field or an area, which you and the school agree, would be mutually beneficial.

  4. The maximum award will be $2,000 per year, but cannot exceed 50% of the cost of course work.

  5. The maximum total award leading to certification or Master’s degree cannot exceed $5,000, but cannot exceed 50% of the course work.

I encourage all who believe they qualify to apply.  What a wonderful opportunity.

If you have questions please come see me.

In addition to the new venture with Azusa Pacific, Hope International University, with whom many of you meet last year is also planning to offer certification courses on our campus subject to adequate student numbers.  More information will be provided for those choosing to enroll in that institution.  I see it as another exciting and opportunity producing venture.  Just a reminder to notify me in writing in the next two weeks of your intentions, possible certification or degree program, and possible institution.
